You've heard the phrase, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery," right? Well my daughter Lucy, must love me a lot! Everywhere I go, there she is, wanting to copy whatever I do. If I say something to her, she will repeat it back (Whether I want her to or not!). When I am using the computer, she wants to "help." When I am sitting on the couch reading a book, she brings her book and sits next to me. If I am practicing piano, there she is, adding her accompaniment!
In the past few weeks, I have become acutely aware of these little eyes watching my every move. The things that I say and do are being observed at all times. The importance of modeling good manners, honesty, integrity, compassion, love. . . whatever it is that I want my daughter to realize in her own life, she must first see in mine.
Ephesians 5:1-2 says: " Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love, even as Christ loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of sweet smell." Just as my sweet little girl, imitates and mirrors my actions, so should I be seeking to imitate the qualities of my Heavenly Father. If I truly love Him as I say I do, I should be looking for ways every day to be more like Him. What better way for my daughter to be able to begin to understand the great love that He has for her!
